2014 The Cave Bulang Natural Storage Ancient Tree
Highlights: 100% ancient tree from Bulang Really advanced natural storage (drinks like a 2000s cake) Powerful calming Qi Smooth and very rich, with good aftertaste Creation of visionary master He Zhong Tai A quite mad experiment really. Normally no one ages 100% pure ancient tree puerh in a very humid way, but He Zhong Tai did just this. And not only that, he put it together with some much older teas in an anti raid shelter (“the cave”) and somehow got a tea that tastes way older than its age, while still being relatively clean. When he introduced this tea we were very skeptical, but upon tasting we can see the attraction: ancient tree puerh from the 2000s is so rare and the fact that this cake drinks so old is very attractive. The powerful Bulang leaves bitterness got smoothened (still strong backbone but quite smooth and sweet now), and the Qi is a peaceful meditative experience (which started from the very first cup for me). Tier rating is hard to decide given its unique storage, it’s 100% ancient tree from a classic puerh area so in the T4 /T5- region at least. It’s not our usual pure dry storage of course, but this is still much cleaner tasting than aged cakes that have been in HK wet storage (almost all of 80s-90s puerh). As you can see from the pictures there’s little frost on the top (some cakes have a bit in the middle), and it has little storage flavour. Lovers of shou and well aged sheng will love this tea too. Approx. 400g cakes.
